Senior Laser Systems Engineer 

A client of ours is seeking a senior-level Laser Systems Engineer to lead the development of advanced solid-state laser technology for aerospace and defense applications. This is a hands-on technical leadership position combining laser design, optical modeling, hardware development, and mentorship of engineering teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of solid-state and DPSS laser systems
• Develop MOPA, OPO/OPA, oscillator, and narrow-linewidth laser architectures
• Perform laser cavity, gain, thermal, and system performance modeling
• Develop and optimize nonlinear optics and frequency conversion including SHG and THG
• Support LIDAR transmitter and high-energy/pulsed laser development
• Perform optical modeling and tolerance analysis using Zemax
• Lead technical reviews, troubleshoot design challenges, and address program risks
• Guide laser hardware through integration, testing, and qualification
• Collaborate with optical, mechanical, electrical, systems, and manufacturing engineers
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical direction throughout development programs

Qualifications

• M.S. or Ph.D. in Physics, Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline
• 5+ years of hands-on solid-state laser development experience
• Strong expertise in laser resonators, gain media, nonlinear optics, frequency conversion, or narrow-linewidth systems
• Experience with high-peak-power/high-pulse-energy lasers, MOPA, OPO/OPA, or nonlinear frequency conversion
• Proficiency with Zemax or comparable optical modeling software
• Previous technical leadership or engineering mentorship experience
• Aerospace, defense, LIDAR, airborne, or space hardware experience highly desirable
• Experience with environmental testing such as vibration, thermal, or vacuum is a plus
• U.S. citizenship with ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance
