Job Description

We are seeking a reliable and experienced Custodial Worker to support the Tennessee School for the Deaf (TSDK) in maintaining clean, safe, and sanitary facilities. The selected candidate will perform general custodial duties, operate cleaning equipment, assist with facility maintenance, and support the training of new custodial staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Serve as a lead custodian and perform leadership tasks assigned by the supervisor.
• Operate custodial tools and equipment, including floor-washing machines, buffers, and vacuums.
• Sweep, mop, scrub, strip, wax, and buff floors by hand or machine.
• Clean and sanitize restrooms, showers, toilets, sinks, floors, walls, and mirrors.
• Empty trash and maintain clean and orderly facilities.
• Clean offices, classrooms, and other school facilities by dusting furniture, vacuuming and shampooing carpets, washing walls and windows, and organizing work areas.
• Inspect and police grounds to collect trash and identify maintenance needs.
• Maintain simple records and prepare routine reports regarding facility deficiencies and required materials.
• Perform light maintenance of custodial equipment.
• Train and assist new custodial workers.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Minimum of 1 year of custodial work experience.
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to operate custodial equipment and perform physical cleaning duties.
• Ability to work independently and follow supervisor instructions.
• Good organizational and communication skills.

Background Verification Requirements

Selected candidates must successfully complete a TBI/FBI background check and fingerprinting , including:

• Tennessee and federal criminal history checks.
• Child abuse records verification.
• Employment verification.
• Professional and personal reference checks.

Important: Due to the position being located at a school, any discrepancies in the background check or fingerprinting report may result in disqualification from consideration.
